LOT Polish Airlines has taken another important step in its expansion strategy by taking delivery of its first E195-E2. This event marks the beginning of a new phase for the Polish airline, which is currently in the midst of a major fleet expansion. The arrival of the new aircraft in Warsaw on 31 July 2024 is a clear sign of the airline's ambitions to further strengthen its presence on the European market.
The E195-E2, which was flown from Recife to Warsaw with a stopover in Gran Canaria, is the first of three aircraft to enter service under a leasing agreement with Azorra Aviation. The other two aircraft are expected by the end of October. These jets are equipped with 136 seats in a single-class configuration and, according to CEO Michał Fijoł, are intended to increase the frequency of flights to selected European cities. The first commercial flight of the new jet will take place on August 11 from Warsaw to Oslo Gardermoen.
The acquisition of the E195-E2 is part of LOT's comprehensive strategy, which was presented in October 2023. This strategy envisages increasing the fleet to 110 aircraft by 2028. In addition, an ambitious target of 2024 aircraft by 135 was announced by a government minister in June 2032. This expansion is crucial to ensure the airline's competitiveness and strengthen its market position.
In addition to the new E195-E2, LOT's current fleet consists of a mix of modern and efficient aircraft. According to ch-aviation's fleet module, it currently includes twelve B737-8s, of which ten are still to be delivered, six B737-800s, eight B787-8s, seven B787-9s, one inactive DHC-8-Q400, five E170s, fifteen E195s, eight E190s and sixteen E195s. In addition, LOT wet-lease an A330-900N from Air Belgium.
Technological advances and environmental protection
The new E195-E2 jets not only offer increased passenger capacity, but also significant benefits in terms of fuel efficiency and environmental impact. According to Embraer, the manufacturer of the E195-E2, these aircraft consume up to 25% less fuel per seat compared to the previous version, the E195. This not only leads to cost savings for the airline, but also significantly reduces CO2 emissions.
The fleet expansion comes at a time when the aviation industry is facing major challenges worldwide. Rising fuel prices, the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and increasing pressure to implement more environmentally friendly solutions are all presenting airlines with major challenges. However, LOT has created a solid foundation to meet these challenges through its strategic investments in new and efficient aircraft.
Market outlook and future developments
With the continuous expansion and modernization of its fleet, LOT Polish Airlines is positioning itself as a strong player on the European aviation market. The new aircraft will enable the airline to open new routes and strengthen existing connections. This will not only improve the travel experience for passengers, but also increase the airline's operational efficiency.
The acquisition of the E195-E2 marks the beginning of an exciting new era for LOT. The coming months and years will show how successfully the airline can implement its expansion plans and what new opportunities this will create. With a clear strategy and modern aircraft, LOT is well equipped to master the competition and further expand its market position.
