For some time now, Lufthansa has been testing so-called sleeper benches in economy class between Germany and Brazil. As of August 2, 2021, “Sleeper's Row” will be available on flights to São Paulo, Los Angeles and Singapore.
The booking can also be made at short notice during check-in or directly at the gate. The passengers are given a row of three or four seats to themselves for the entire duration of the flight. There is also a cushion and a mattress pad. A special safety belt, which remains closed even when lying down, and separate safety instructions ensure safety during the flight. Another benefit is pre-boarding. Passengers who book a Sleeper's Row get on the plane earlier.
Lufthansa offers the sleeping benches on long-haul flights with a flight duration of around eleven hours or more, for example on routes to the Far East, the west coast of the USA, Central and South America or southern Africa. The surcharge is between 159 and 229 euros each way. A maximum of three Sleeper's Row rows are offered per flight. It is not possible to reserve in advance.
