From the end of September 2020, Brussels Airlines will take off from Frankfurt am Main for Namibia. It is being carried out on behalf of the new Lufthansa project "Ocean", which is to bring together numerous previous brands. Applications for your own AOC and OL have already been submitted to the Federal Aviation Office.

The long-haul tourist route is to be bundled in the future and operated by the new Ocean platform. This should be based on the Edelweiss Air model and be located in the full-service segment. At the moment there is a real patchwork quilt, because SunExpress Germany and Brussels Airlines flew under the Eurowings brand and Lufthansa also relied on CityLine and SunExpress Germany. The local branch of the joint venture with Turkish Airlines has already been sent into liquidation.

The portal Aero.de reports that the use of Brussels Airlines long-haul aircraft is only intended to be a temporary solution. In the medium term, Ocean is to serve as a wet lease platform and thus operate the machines itself. It has already been agreed with the Cockpit Association that pilots from SunExpress Deutschland and Brussels Airlines can transfer to Ocean.

The brand under which the project will appear is still open. In any case, the focus will be on Munich and Frankfurt am Main. With this, the Lufthansa Group is also increasing the pressure on the former subsidiary Condor. With the start-up, the crane is also avoiding a completely different matter, because acquisitions are currently taboo in the course of the billions in government aid. However, new foundations are not excluded in the contracts.
