Lufthansa ends pilot training in Bremen

There was no good news on Monday evening for the around 700 prospective pilots at the Lufthansa flight school in Bremen. The crane group is terminating the training at this location and only a few can complete the path to their license. A spicy detail: although most courses are no longer completed, the cadets are still supposed to pay full price.

Only those trainee pilots who are about to graduate should still be able to finish their training. All others were asked via a webcast on Tuesday that they should look for a different career path and should now leave school without financial obligations. The payments already made should not be refunded.

All courses have been suspended for three months. Lufthansa Aviation Training sees no need for young pilots for several years. If the course participants insist, they will try to move them to other flight schools. Only those who are about to take the final exam can still take it in Bremen. However, there is no job guarantee in the Lufthansa Group. There is also no guarantee that repayments of the Group's advance payments (around 60.000 to 80.000 euros) could be reclaimed.

The Cockpit Association demands that Lufthansa Aviation Training carry out the training itself, as originally promised, and that it does not commission any external service providers. The VC states that of the approximately 700 cadets, around 170 are about to graduate. The flight students draw attention to their fate in a YouTube video and indirectly call on CEO Carsten Spohr to reconsider the decision.

In any case, the Bremen location could be completely abandoned. The employees of the flight school are then also affected. According to unconfirmed flight rumors, there is a risk of relocation to Rostock-Laage Airport. However, there is no official information on this.
