The airlines of the Lufthansa Group will require FFP1 masks to be worn on board their flights to / from Germany from February 2021, 2. Alternatively, a so-called surgical mask is also permitted. The previous "everyday masks" are then no longer allowed.

The airlines of the Lufthansa Group had already introduced a requirement to wear a face-to-face mask on board their flights in May of last year, making them one of the world's pioneers. With the adaptation of the regulation, the Lufthansa Group is now taking up the federal-state decision of January 19. This means that uniform rules apply along the entire travel chain.

The regulation comes into force on February 1st. From this point on, passengers are obliged to wear either a surgical mask or an FFP2 mask or mask with the KN95 / N95 standard during boarding, the flight and when leaving the aircraft. Everyday masks are then no longer allowed.
