On August 2, 2021, the airlines in the Lufthansa Group will say goodbye to free rebooking. The business saver (continental) and economy light (network-wide) fare classes are primarily affected. How much the change will cost is not very transparent.
In addition to the fee “from 35 euros” (European flights) and “from 75 euros” (long-haul flights), the group then also collects the tariff difference. Thus, no clear statement can be made about how much a possible rebooking actually costs. Tickets issued up to and including August 1, 2021 are not affected. With these there is only one possible tariff difference.
The Lufthansa Group will also change the term “rebooking” on August 2, 2021. In future, a distinction will be made between changing the date (“rerouting”) and rebooking. There is no fee for the former, but a tariff difference must be paid. If the route should also be changed, Lufthansa will again charge a processing fee. However, the basic requirement for both is that the tariff booked allows changes at all.
The changes will take effect on August 2, 2021 for Lufthansa, Swiss, Brussels Airlines, Austrian Airlines and Eurowings Discover. The low-cost subsidiary Eurowings wants to - at least for the time being - continue to forego rebooking fees. It should be noted that the low-cost airline also collects any tariff difference as an additional payment.
