With immediate effect, Lufthansa, Swiss and Austrian Airlines are offering insurance packages for a fee in the event of a Covid-19 infection. The options “Travel Care” and “Travel Care Plus” are available. The insurer is AIG Europe SA, whereby the products are initially reserved for passengers residing in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The travel care option insurance package includes compensation for the passenger should they have to go into quarantine at their destination due to a Covid-19 infection. At the same time, the option includes travel cancellation and travel interruption insurance. In addition to the services mentioned, the Travel Care Plus option also covers medical costs in the event that the passenger becomes ill with Covid-19. Any medical emergency repatriation is also covered. All insurance benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of the policy.

The policy can be purchased while booking the ticket via the direct sales channels of the three airlines. According to their own information, they are among the first airlines to offer additional coverage.
