From September 1, 2020, the Lufthansa Group will only allow passengers who can present a negative COVID-19 test and a medical certificate to fly without a mask. This also applies expressly to the subsidiary Austrian Airlines.

So far, the crane group has granted some groups of people an exception to the general mask requirement. This includes in particular people who cannot wear one for medical reasons and who can prove this with a medical certificate. The airlines of the Lufthansa Group are now putting on a form that has to be signed by a doctor. In addition, a negative PCR test, which must not be older than 48 hours, must be presented. You can only fly on board without a mask if these two mandatory documents are presented.

“We have always emphasized that security is our top priority, especially in times of COVID-19. A mask is the simplest and most effective protection against transmission, ”says Austrian Airlines COO Jens Ritter. “The majority of our passengers adhere to the rules in an exemplary manner. With the current change, we are taking an additional step towards more safety in the aircraft. "

Austrian Airlines has the form, which must be signed by a doctor, at this link available for download. It is pointed out again that a negative PCR test, which must not be older than 48 hours, must also be submitted. Otherwise the airlines of the Lufthansa Group do not grant any exception to the mask requirement.
