On June 1, 2023, Lufthansa carried out the first commercial scheduled flight in more than three years with the Airbus A380 machine type. D-AIMK flew from Munich to Boston as LH424.
At the beginning of the corona pandemic, the sub-fleet, which originally consisted of 14 units, was temporarily shut down. Some copies have been sold back to the manufacturer. Group boss Carsten Spohr was initially of the opinion that this pattern would not have a comeback in the group of companies he managed.
But things turned out differently, because among other things, delivery delays for newly ordered aircraft have led to the Kranich Group deciding to reactivate some Airbus A380s and put them back into scheduled service. Preparations for this began a few months ago.
The "comeback flight" took place on June 1, 2023 under flight number LH424 from Munich to Boston. The D-AIMK was used. How many machines of this type will be stationed in the Bavarian state capital is still open, because in addition to the four decided copies, one is considering whether two more A380s will be brought out of their slumber.
