After initial hesitation, Lufthansa is gradually increasing services from the Frankfurt am Main and Munich hubs in the direction of Shanghai and Beijing. The increases will take effect in the 2023 summer timetable.

Shanghai is to be increased by three weekly rotations from Frankfurt am Main as of March 26, 2023, which are to be served with Boeing 747-400. Four rotations per week will be offered on this route. From April 1, 2023, Airbus A350-900 will initially fly three times a week to the Chinese metropolis from Munich. As of August 31, 2023, daily service is to be increased.

Beijing, which is currently only offered once a week from Frankfurt am Main, will be served daily again from March 27, 2023. Four-engine Airbus A340-300 aircraft are to be used on this route. From July 1, 2023, three flights a week will depart from Munich for the Chinese capital. The use of A350-900 is planned.
