Especially in times of the Corona crisis, companies long for government support. While such injections of capital ensure survival, they also bring obligations. Because those who rely on state aid are also bound by state aid requirements. This is also the case with Lufthansa, which has to refrain from taking over until repayment is made. But the AUA mother still does not want to do without cooperation.

“In the medium to long term, we want to continue to be an active driver of consolidation,” said Lufthansa board member Harry Hohmeister in an interview with Reuters. Buying stores is not the only way here. “I am thinking, for example, of partnerships and joint ventures in sales and with the airlines. The topic remains on the agenda - despite the crisis, ”added the manager responsible for the business of the network airlines Lufthansa, Swiss, Brussels and Austrian Airlines.

In the spring there was discussion about joining the Portuguese TAP. But that was put on hold because of the crisis. Lufthansa’s hands are tied until the repayment is made. Until then, the competition would have time to go on a “shopping tour” unhindered. Smaller airlines, which have been hit relatively hard by this crisis, could be objects of desire.
