The largest airline in Germany is deep in chaos. In many areas, especially in flight operations, there is an acute shortage of personnel. Lufthansa now has to cancel many flights again. In the week from July 8 to July 14, 2022 alone, around 19 percent of all planned connections fail.

The Kranich Group had previously reduced the summer offer by thousands of connections in several steps. You even have temporary only the most expensive booking classes on sale had. The official justification was that space had to be reserved for the many rebookings. But it doesn't stop there, because the company informed the workforce that further adjustments will be made. Between July 8 and July 14, 2022 alone, 19 percent of all planned Lufthansa flights are canceled.

The carrier puts the extent of the cancellations at around 57 to 76 connections per day. The majority of these fall into the waves, because during these there is a lot going on at the airports served by Lufthansa. According to a company spokesman, this would mean that the machines would catch delays that could not be made up for during the day. One therefore wants to “equalize” these periods and make deletions on a weekly basis depending on the current situation. Flights in the evening are already affected particularly often and it often happens that the machines take off completely without passengers and fly to other airports. With the help of these positioning flights, one wants to bring stability into the flight plan, but there are also grotesque cases: Sometimes the planes fly exactly the same route as originally planned, however the passengers stay behind.
