Delvag, the Lufthansa Group's own insurer, is exiting the online sale of drone insurance. The company announced that the products will be discontinued on August 31, 2022 for “strategic reasons”.

In concrete terms, this means that it is no longer possible to take out new owner liability insurance with Delvag from this date. So far, the offer has been aimed at both commercial and private operators. In the future, commercial drone operators will only be insured if there is an explicit request for a case-by-case assessment. So far, online sales have been quite uncomplicated, so that unmanned aerial vehicles, provided they meet the insurance conditions, can be insured with just a few mouse clicks.

For the time being, nothing will change for policyholders, because Delvag wants to fulfill them by the end of the agreed term. However, there are then so-called expiry notices, because the Lufthansa subsidiary will no longer continue existing insurance contracts beyond the originally agreed period. Existing customers will therefore have to look for a new insurance company in the medium term.
