The flight attendants' union UFO demands that Lufthansa pay the cabin crew an inflation adjustment of 3.000 euros. It is the tax-exempt amount that employers can voluntarily transfer based on a government decision.
The employee representatives are still confident that they can negotiate through Lufthansa to grant the flight attendants the requested special payment. "Against the background of the growth and profit expectations that became known just a few days ago, with simultaneous real wage losses due to the further increase in inflation, it can only be logical to let employees participate fully in Lufthansa's success with the inflation bonus and to give them financial support under the grab arms. The timing has never been better: the crisis seems to be over, Lufthansa is making profits again. The employees play a crucial part in making this happen. Accordingly, they can now expect their company to reciprocate,” said Daniel Kassa Mbuambi, UFO Chairman.
"We assume that Mr. Spohr will not only find encouraging words for his colleagues, but will also create financial incentives so that no further staff migrate. The frustration over the summer of chaos, failed personnel policy, possible bonus payments for board members and the founding of new airlines as internal group competition are met with inflation that is still far above the pain threshold. The expectations of the employees that they too will feel something of the new impetus and the very good future prospects in their salary account are correspondingly high,” adds Harry Jaeger, UFO negotiator at Lufthansa. “We are also confident that Lufthansa understands that an inflation premium is badly needed. Right now and not until next year. Under the new circumstances, it should be self-evident that the employer will now make full use of the option of paying out a tax-free inflation premium of EUR 3.000”.
