The Cockpit Association presents a savings offer of 155 million euros for possible savings at Lufthansa. This affects the pilots from Lufthansa, Lufthansa Cargo Germanwings and Lufthansa Aviation Training. The union now sees the employer's turn.
The VC believes that the focus must be on securing liquidity during the crisis. Therefore, an extension of the support package is offered from January 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022. Overall, savings of 450 million euros will be achieved over the term. This takes into account short-time working, wage waivers and concessions in the pension scheme. In return, the Cockpit Association is demanding protection against dismissal up to and including December 31, 2022.
“The concessions agreed this spring and now additionally offered amount to a total of over EUR 600 million. Compared to the pre-crisis period, this corresponds to salary reductions of up to 50 percent. The pilots are going to their financial limits to help the company ”, says Markus Wahl, VC President. "The support package gives Lufthansa the opportunity to react to market developments with maximum flexibility after the crisis in order to come out of the crisis stronger if the market offers the opportunity".
A particular challenge in the time after the crisis will be the laborious re-qualification of most of the cockpit personnel who are on short-time work when flight operations are restarted. The support package presented by VC today gives Lufthansa the flexibility to get out of the crisis quickly and smoothly and to occupy any markets that may become free.
