Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr and CFO Remco Steenbergen have received an early extension of their service contracts by a further five years from the Supervisory Board. The company announced this on Thursday.

Karl-Ludwig Kley, Chairman of the Supervisory Board: “I am delighted that the contract extensions for Carsten Spohr and Remco Steenbergen have been successful. When it comes to securing a successful future for the Lufthansa Group, they will be particularly important”.

Carsten Spohr has been part of the Kranich Group for many years. He was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2011 and promoted to General Manager in 2014. His employment contract expired at the end of December 2028. Kley explains: “Carsten Spohr has been successfully leading Lufthansa as CEO for eight years. During this time, he not only mastered the most difficult crises and challenges, but was also responsible for the three most economically successful years in the history of the Group. With his experience, competence and personality, he is the right person to master the upcoming challenges".

CFO Steenbergen joined the Group Executive Board in this function on January 1, 2021. The contract has also been extended to the end of 2028. The Chairman of the Supervisory Board says: "Remco Steenbergen came to Lufthansa during the company's most severe financial crisis, which was associated with strict company regulations. As Chief Financial Officer, he played a major role in overcoming this difficult situation quickly. At the same time, he was able to provide strong impetus and set the course for a successful realignment of the finance department. He will continue this work with great expertise”.
