The airline Luxair started a non-stop connection between Antwerp and London City Airport on Monday. After a long time, an operator tries this route again. The carrier will fly four times a week until the end of March 2023.
Aircraft are not stationed in Belgium, but the route is served with machines from Luxembourg, which come to Antwerp via London City. As a rule, de Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprop aircraft are used. The first flight was carried out with the LX-LQI. From March 29, 2023, Luxair intends to operate this route five times a week.
In the medium term, however, they are considering replacing the Dash 8-400 sub-fleet, which currently consists of eleven units. Regional jets of the A220 or Embraer E2 series have been considered. But no decision has been made yet. The renewal of the eight Boeing 737NG should have priority. For this one thinks about the leasing of B737-Max.
Initially, however, it could be a temporary expansion of the fleet, as local media reports that Luxair management is negotiating with lessors about two B737 Max. If an agreement is reached, these should be fleeted before the main season and increase capacity in summer 2023. The carrier expects demand to continue to rise this year.
