A Brussels Airlines flight from Madrid to Brussels on August 1, 2023 was very uncomfortable for some passengers because the air conditioning malfunctioned. As a result, it got very hot on board the OO-SNB.

According to a media report by the Belgian newspaper HLN, the defect is said to have already existed on the floor in Madrid. Due to the high temperatures that prevailed on site, a medical emergency is said to have occurred before the start. One person lost consciousness. Temperatures on board are said to have been around 45 degrees Celsius.

The flight captain repeatedly announced through announcements that he would have the problem fixed as soon as possible. However, no repairs were made, but after the travelers had to wait around 1,5 hours in the hot Brussels A320, the medium-haul jet took off towards Brussels without a working air conditioning system. Belgian media reports that some passengers did not feel particularly well during the flight.

Some travelers made serious allegations against the Lufthansa subsidiary in regional newspapers, claiming that the on-site repairs would not have taken place because otherwise the arrival would have been delayed by more than three hours. This would then have meant that all travelers would have been entitled to compensation of 250 euros.

The affected airline confirmed that there was a technical problem on flight SN3728 on August 1, 2023. The system that activated the air conditioning when the engines were switched off was affected. It is explained that the travelers were given water and ice cubes. However, it is also acknowledged that the situation was extremely difficult and numerous travelers were extremely dissatisfied with the incident. In any case, they apologize for the inconvenience and further explain that the air conditioning would have worked normally after the engines had been switched on. However, numerous affected passengers contradict this representation.
