May 2021: A slight upswing at Germany's airports

The German airports counted a total of 2021 passengers in May 3.254.164. Compared to May 2019, the month before the crisis, this value means a decrease of 85,5 percent. Compared to May 2020, there were around 2,8 million more travelers.

The cargo volume continues to perform at a high level with +24,4 percent and 461.288 tons (compared to 2019 +11,3 percent). The number of commercial flight movements is +97,5 percent above the previous year, but significantly lower than in 2019 at -61,0 percent. The airports recorded 67.011 take-offs and landings. Domestic German traffic increased by 2020 percent in a direct comparison with May 225,8, but was 89,5 percent below the value reached in 2019.

European flights improved by 817,3 percent to 2,29 million travelers, but compared to May 2019 this was a decrease of 84,1 percent. Intercontinental demand grows by +535,9 percent to almost 500.000 passengers. Compared to May 2019, however, this is a decrease of -86 percent.
