In spring 2021, Austrian Airlines was able to obtain take-off and landing rights at Milan Linate Airport at short notice. The Malpensa flights were relocated to the inner-city airport, but had to be switched back at the start of the current 2021/22 winter timetable period. It remains so for the time being.

The Austrian airline received the coveted Linate slots initially only granted for the 2021 summer flight schedule. In contrast to the competitor Ryanair if you use them actively, however, it was not possible to obtain take-off and landing rights for the winter of 2021/22. So you had to switch back to Malpensa.

A spokeswoman for Austrian Airlines confirmed to Aviation.Direct that there will be no Linate comeback in the upcoming summer period. The background is that the carrier could not get hold of the necessary slots. Therefore, Malpensa Airport will continue to be used in this region. However, efforts are still being made to obtain take-off and landing rights in Linate, as the focus is on the inner-city airport.
