The airline Malaysia Airlines has announced that it is now able to offer passengers on board its aircraft the usual in-flight catering. For almost two months, this was only possible to a very limited extent or not at all because the change of supplier did not go smoothly.
The carrier ended its collaboration with Barhim Food on September 1, 2023 after approximately 26 years. However, no contract had been signed with another supplier at this point. As a result, there was no catering at all on many flights and, if at all, only to a very limited extent. Malaysia Airlines had to sometimes face strong customer criticism.
A temporary distribution center has now been set up for the catering goods and ten so-called Hi-Lifts have also been procured. These should be in use since November 1, 2023. According to the announcement, the company now handles around 18.000 on-board meals per day on its own initiative. They would cooperate with well-known catering companies and promise that the food and drinks served would meet the highest quality standards.
“As a global airline, Malaysia Airlines sets high standards for our product offering and onboard service – it is the message on the country’s wings and the champion of Malaysian hospitality. We have made this much-needed shift in our on-board catering to improve our offering and service while expanding our capabilities while continuing to put the customer first. We've also received positive feedback from our customers about our food offering, with some crowd favorites even being offered on more of our flights. We adhere to innovation, safety and the highest standards of customer satisfaction. We will continue to expand our core offering as a premium airline and are committed to enhancing the inflight dining experience by offering more options, curated offerings and variety to all our guests,” said Izham Ismail, Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group.
