Palma de Mallorca Airport was last extensively renovated around 25 years ago. A particularly large number of passengers are expected in the summer of 2023 and the terminals want to be refreshed and connections optimized until the big rush.

Both the main building and Terminal A are said to be denied. Terminal D will be supplemented by three more piers. As a result, some areas are currently closed due to construction work. The operating company has the project cost around 200 million euros and emphasizes that everything should be ready by the main travel season of 2023.

The work is to be carried out within the next few months. In order to disrupt operations as little as possible, work should mainly be done at night. For the first time in 25 years, such extensive renovations are being carried out at Palma de Mallorca Airport. Admittedly, a hand has also been applied selectively in the past, but not to this extent.

In the area of air traffic control, the Spanish government intends that the control towers at the airports of Santiago de Compostela, Bilbao, Gran Canaria, Malaga, Tenerife North, Tenerife South and Palma de Mallorca should no longer be operated by the state ATC, but by a private provider. The employers' association Caeb and airlines see the project positively, but there has been considerable criticism from the unions. Corresponding contracts are to be publicly advertised in the near future.
