The corona pandemic also hit the Maltese subsidiary of FWAG hard. However, numerous airlines are resuming their offers.
Airport Luqa, a subsidiary of Flughafen Wien AG, recorded a 2020 percent drop in passengers in the first half of 68,7. The only commercial airport in the Republic of Malta had a total of 1.017.850 passengers. Before the Corona crisis, however, the start was still very strong, because in January and February 2020 increases of 14,2 percent and 17,3 percent were achieved.
Passenger numbers plummeted due to the restrictive flight ban imposed by the Maltese government in March. According to Times of Malta only 8.700 arriving passengers were counted in the second quarter. These were almost exclusively return flights. In June 2020 there were 3.348 flight movements, the figure also including maintenance and ferry flights.
Nonstop flights are currently offered from Luqa to 49 airports in 13 European countries. Some routes are also served by different carriers. Further resumptions are to be announced in the next few days.
