The startup Nordic Seaplanes has been granted an AOC and operating license by the Maltese Civil Aviation Authority. The first machine is registered under the registration 9H-OCEAN.

The new company is an offshoot of the Denmark-based company. To date, the two de Havilland DHC-6-300 seaplanes with the registrations OY-NSA and HB-LWB were operated by Zimex Aviation. They now have their own certified flight operations, which are not based in Denmark but in Malta.

A de Havilland DHC-6-300 was registered as 9H-OCEAN. Malta has also been allowing four-digit registrations for some time now, although these are often used for special “desired license plates”. According to Mavio News, the designator is “Wet” and the call sign is “Barefoot”.

Initially, the flight operations that were carried out in Denmark by Zimex Aviation on behalf of Nordic Seaplanes will be transferred to the new AOC. At a later date, we also intend to operate from the port of the Maltese capital Valletta. Initially, sightseeing flights will be offered. In the past, for example, Harbor Air, which no longer operates in Malta, also offered scheduled services between the ports of Valletta and Mgarr (Gozo). However, these were abandoned due to lack of economic viability.

A project on the Canary Islands is also related to Nordic Seaplanes. They want to set up a seaplane connection between Tenerife and Gran Canaria and La Palma. However, setting up the operation in Malta is a company priority. However, there is no connection with a project in the Balearic Islands, which is also to be carried out under Maltese AOC.
