Malta Airport, a subsidiary of Flughafen Wien AG, is tendering the construction of seven additional parking spaces for commercial aircraft. The project known as "Apron X" is the largest investment since 1998.

The additional apron area will be created between Apron 8 and Apron 9 and should significantly increase the handling capacity. According to the tender, Apron X will be able to handle seven narrow bodies or three wide bodies at the same time. New taxiways and buildings for ground handling equipment are also being built. The aircraft will be powered by connections installed in the ground and the lighting will be implemented using LED technology.

The tendering phase is currently running. Construction companies can submit their offers until February 12, 2021. The contract should then be awarded.
