Malta, which is particularly popular with German holidaymakers this year, has introduced new entry forms. What is new is that these can be submitted online in advance and - similar to in Greece - you get a QR code, which you then have to show at boarding and when checking the Maltese Ministry of Health.
Malta uses the PLF system provided by the European Union. This is also used by the neighboring country of Italy. All other EU members prefer to build their own. The electronic transmission of the "entry registration" relieves the need to fill out the paper forms and, according to the Maltese Ministry of Health, should enable faster entry. One arrives at the electronic PLF system for Malta with this link.
Because Malta will shortly only allow vaccinated people to enter, the EU vaccination certificate must be uploaded when filling out the electronic PLF form, which is also used to submit the so-called Health Declaration in one go. This can be done as a PDF file or, alternatively, you can simply photograph it. It is essential that the QR code of the document is clearly legible.
In contrast to Greece, the QR code and the PDF file with QR code are sent immediately by email. You can either show the printout or use the smartphone.
Malta continues to accept the classic paper form. Those who prefer to enter “analog” can download the new form from this link and then fill it in and take it with you on the flight to Luqa. The proof of vaccination in the form of the EU certificate can either be presented on paper or on the smartphone during the inspection.
Until a few weeks ago you had to fill out two forms when traveling to Malta. This was the international PLF form and a declaration to the Ministry of Health that in the past 14 days one has only been in “covid-clean” countries. These have now been summarized in a form. Online you get a QR code and a PDF with a QR code and, in the classic analog way, this consists of two A4 pages. Regardless of whether you opt for digital or analog, it must be carried with you on the journey and presented at the boarding gate.
