At Berlin-Brandenburg Airport things are not going smoothly at Easyjet. The carrier had to cancel many flights again on Saturday. Spicy: Due to the Pentecost holidays, almost all affected connections were very well booked, many even overbooked.

Instead of going on vacation, on Saturday Easyjet passengers on flights EJU4541 (Nice), EJU5531 (Paris-Orly), EJU5681 (Copenhagen), EJU5701 (Rome-Fiumicino), EZY6238 (Bristol), EJU5923 (Fuerteventura), EJU5833 ( Tel Aviv), EJU5007 (ibiza), EJU5603 (Dubrovnik) and EJU8214 (London-Gatwick) at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport to learn about the cancellations. Those affected criticized Aviation.Direct that only an information flyer was distributed and that they should contact the call center for rebookings or make them themselves online or via the app. According to passenger information, neither alternative transport nor support services were offered on site.

Berlin is said to be “the least profitable”.

Only a few days ago it became known that Easyjet intends to do so to significantly downsize the Berlin-Brandenburg base. In this context, 275 jobs are to be cut. A round of talks with the Verdi union planned for Monday was canceled at short notice. It's also about the money, because the salaries have not been increased for three years. The employee representatives consider an increase of 2,2 percent offered by Easyjet in the coming year and a one-off payment of 1.500 euros to be too little. So far, no improved offer has been received, which is why the Verdi members have already been informed about a possible warning strike.

In an internal circular, Germany boss Stephan Erler describes Berlin as the location that is said to be the least profitable in the entire route network. The reduction is intended to help ensure that it can be preserved. The Verdi union accuses Easyjet of greed for profit.

A striking number of sick leave

The Berlin-Brandenburg base has been affected by an unusually large number of sick leave since the plans to reduce staff became known. As a result, there are far too few flying personnel available and therefore numerous flights have to be cancelled. The carrier has already reduced the flight schedule, but this does not seem to be enough, because many connections are canceled at short notice.

A spokeswoman told the Berliner Zeitung, among other things: “This week we will operate around 1700 flights a day, of which more than 100 flights will take off or land at BER. Unfortunately, due to an above-average level of sick leave among the crew, we had to decide to cancel around eight flights to and from Berlin/Brandenburg per day from June 1st to 30th in advance. We deeply regret the short notice of some of these flight cancellations and the resulting inconvenience to customers."
