The Greek airline Marathon Airlines started a non-stop connection between Athens and Benghazi on March 2, 2023. The Embraer 175LR with the registration SX-MTO was used.

Together with Air Mediterranean, non-stop flights between Greece and Libya are being offered for the first time in many years. The Greek ambassador working in the destination country was also on board the first flight operated by Marathon Airlines. In a speech, he emphasized that the start of the flights is also an important contribution by Greece to the reconstruction of Benghazi.

"The inclusion of the Athens-Benghazi air route is a clear indication of our country's intention to have a long-term presence throughout Libya, to cooperate with it and to support it as soon as the internal situation in Libya allows," said the Ambassador. Only since February 12, 2023 can visas for entry into Greece be applied for again at the Consulate General in Benghazi.
