The Skyalps charter flights planned from Maribor Airport in Slovenia have been canceled due to a lack of demand. The tourism company BMG, which has announced connections to Bolzano, Pisa and Naples, announced the end before the first flight.

Actually, Luxwing in the colors of Skyalps should already have charter flights from Maribor with de Havilland Dash 8-400 since Thursday to the three Italian cities. However, ticket sales fell far short of expectations, so the project was called off completely. People who have already bought tickets should get their money back.

The charter connections were originally limited to September 15, 2022. Each of the three Italian destinations should be served at least 12 times. The tourism company BMG primarily wanted to attract Italians to Maribor. Despite the support of the Slovenian tourist office, it was not successful. The price may also have played a role, as the tickets cost between 259 euros and 359 euros, depending on the destination.

This means that Maribor Airport is still without regular flights. The last scheduled flight to this airport was three years ago. There are also negotiations with the low-cost airlines Ryanair and Wizz Air. The latter airline is in talks about a connection to Skopje, and negotiations are ongoing are considered deadlocked due to high requests for grants.
