Alitalia brand is available from 290 million euros

The sale of Alitalia's trademark rights is now officially tendered. The minimum bid is 290 million euros. Due to the fact that the EU Commission insists that the fire must be auctioned off publicly, any interested person who can raise the necessary change can bid.

The outcome of the auction also depends on the brand under which the successor ITA will be launched. If this wins the bid, then one wants to start as Alitalia. If not, then possibly as an ITA. Competitors now have the opportunity to throw a lot of sand into the gears of the project by offering a higher price or simply snatching away the trademark rights.

At the same time, the labor dispute of the Italian trade unions is intensifying, because they are angry that only a small fraction of the Alitalia workforce is to be taken over by the successor ITA. The negotiations were broken off and on Friday a strike that had been announced for a long time is to take place.

Alitalia currently has around 10.000 employees. The successor wants to employ only 2.800 people. They also do not want to conclude any collective agreements with the trade unions, which further angered the employee representatives. There is now even a threat of a strike on October 15, 2021, ITA's official first day of flight. It remains to be seen how this complex matter will develop further.
