The summer flight schedule for 2021 will begin in a few days. It is still unclear how the patchwork of entry and quarantine regulations will develop. Memmingen Airport expects that around 40 destinations can be offered in the next few weeks.

“Never before has a new flight plan been filled with so many question marks, but also with so much dynamism. We are expecting a slow recovery towards the summer vacation ”, explains Memmingen boss Ralf Schmid. "But that all depends on the vaccination process, the incidence figures and the political framework here and in the respective target areas" -

The regional airport expects that the first signs of recovery could emerge around Whitsun 2021. From March 28th, Ryanair will be heading to Mallorca, which has now become attractive again for many holidaymakers after the travel restrictions were lifted. Due to the great demand, the airline has launched additional flights for Easter. Seats can already be booked when Ryanair flies back to Alicante in Spain and Thessaloniki in Greece from May 1st. Jets to Crete and Faro in Portugal are scheduled to take off on May 2nd. Sardinia, Mallorca and Zadar could also be served again. With the Finnish city of Lappeenranta, a new destination is on the flight schedule from July 1st. The Corsica specialist Rhomberg is planning its weekly flight from Memmingen to Calvi again from May 2nd.

As in the last few months, the airline Wizz Air remains on course and is again heading for numerous destinations in Eastern Europe from Memmingen. It was precisely these connections that were important airlifts for medical staff, harvest workers, students, and relatives and friends, even in times of crisis. Of course, Wizz Air no longer sees itself only as a specialist in Eastern Europe, but is also establishing more and more routes in Western Europe. From Memmingen it also operates the connections to Larnaka in Cyprus and Catania in Sicily.

Those responsible expect the first high point of the travel activity in August or the autumn holidays. "How this peak, which we record every year, will turn out to be difficult, however, is difficult to predict," explains Ralf Schmid. For the year 2021 he expects a little more than a million passengers in Memmingen. The winter flight schedule 2021/22 can now also be booked with Ryanair and Wizz Air. Christmas flights to friends and relatives can be planned here. Winter grouches can travel to Fuerteventura and Hurghada with Corendon. And a dream destination like fairytale Marrakech could also be fulfilled. The first flight to the former capital of Morocco is scheduled to start on November 3rd in Memmingen.
