Electric cars seem to be real slow sellers, especially in European holiday destinations. According to an evaluation carried out by the Billiger-Mietwagen.de platform, only 0,22 percent of customers order vehicles with electric drives.
Expressed in figures: In the last twelve months, only 2.500 vacationers have ordered electric rental cars. Of this, 77 percent came from Spain, ten percent from France and two percent from Germany. The rest is distributed among other states. One of the reasons why holidaymakers opt for classic combustion engines is not only the price, but also the fact that they are worried that there might be no possibility of charging at the hotel or holiday home, for example.
Only on the Balearic island of Mallorca is there a significant demand for electric rental cars. According to the analysis, this is also due to the fact that the public sector has spent a lot of money on charging stations, some of which can be used free of charge. There are also reserved parking spaces for e-cars in many tourist locations.
