With the phasing out of the N562FE from the FedEx Express cargo fleet, an era in aviation history comes to an end. It is the world's last MD-10-10F that was still in commercial use.
This type of machine was originally delivered as the McDonnell Douglas DC-10-10. In the 1990s, the US aircraft manufacturer offered the conversion to cargo aircraft. During this process, the machines were also equipped with modern avionics. In total, FedEx had 64 aircraft converted into cargo planes, which after the conversion were given the new designation McDonnell Douglas MD-10-10F. By the way, you were the only operator of this variant.
At the proud 43,6 years of age, the N562FE started her last commercial flight on June 2, 2021. This concludes the chapter on this special freight variant. The 14 McDonnell Douglas MD-10-30F are not affected. They arose from the conversion and modernization of the DC-10-30. FedEx Express will continue to operate the 13 remaining copies for some time. How long? The logistics group does not yet know that exactly.
