With Smartwings: Tui Austria brings back Sal-Charter

After a three-year break, the tour operator Tui Austria is again offering non-stop flights from Vienna-Schwechat to the Cape Verde island of Sal. The charter flights will be operated by the Czech airline Smartwings from December 22, 2023.

"I am pleased that after a three-year break we can again offer Cape Verde directly from Vienna," says Gottfried Math, Managing Director of Tui Austria. “Some of our popular hotel brands such as TUI Blue, RIU and Robinson are based on Sal, so I was particularly keen to reintroduce the island to the flight schedule. In this way, we can bring our customers closer to this original destination in just a few hours' flight."

The tour operator plans that the charter flights should be operated on the traffic day Friday. It is currently planned that these will be in the program between December 22, 2023 and May 10, 2024. Tui Austria had already commissioned Smartwings to operate the Sal flights in the past. Due to the corona pandemic, the offer was temporarily discontinued and is now being relaunched.

The Cape Verde Islands are an insider tip for those who enjoy discovery and lovers of original travel destinations away from mass tourism. With around 350 days of sunshine a year, they are the ideal winter travel destination and, thanks to a direct flight from Vienna, are only a few hours' flight away. The Cape Verde island of Sal impresses with its up to seven kilometers long sandy beaches, the crystal clear water and is particularly popular with those looking for relaxation. Couples feel just as comfortable on Sal as families and horseback riding and water sports enthusiasts. The range of hotels on site ranges from aparthotels to adults-only resorts to all-inclusive clubs.

If you like the desert in Egypt, you will definitely like Cape Verde. Those who prefer a mixture of culture and beach will be more likely to fly to Mexico and those who are only interested in swimming will be more likely to fly to the Caribbean (eg St. Martin). I was in Cape Verde in January 2019. The hotel was overbooked and I was moved to another hotel. No pool, no beach. But the stay was almost free. Apart from a salt mine there is practically nothing to see. The beach was ok but the water was cool. At that time I flew with TAP with a stopover in Lisbon. A week in Cape Verde was more than enough.
