The Swiss airport service provider Swissport is apparently planning drastic cuts at its subsidiary in Munich.
The corona pandemic hit the aviation industry with full force. The airport service provider Swissport Losch is one of them. At Munich Airport alone, the number of passengers handled by Swissport Losch fell by 75 percent last year. The situation has recently worsened. "In January and February 2021 we are around 90 percent below the previous year's values," it said.
In view of this development, the company hinted at drastic measures at its Bavarian location. "We are examining various options," said the spokesperson. According to a report by the Business Insider portal, Swissport is already preparing the insolvency of the Munich operating company Swissport Losch München GmbH & Co. KG. This would mean the loss of around 900 jobs. However, the company spokesperson declined to comment on this, reports merkur.de.
Swissport Losch is a joint venture between Swissport International and the Losch Group in Stuttgart. According to its own information, the company handles around 85.000 flights at Munich Airport each year. At the second largest German airport, the company looks after around 40 airlines, including Lufthansa.
