Skytrax renewed Munich Airport as a five-star airport. This status has been held since May 2015 as the only airport in Europe. The award was extended in 2017.
Now the auditors from London subjected the Bavarian air traffic hub to another detailed evaluation. The auditors' conclusion: Munich Airport has not only maintained its high quality of service and quality of stay, it has even expanded it.
As part of the current audit, all of the airport's service facilities that are relevant to passengers were examined carefully. Special attention was paid to the new offers that have been added in recent years, such as the new lounges in Terminal 1, the redesigned arrival area in Terminal 2, the security control in Terminal 2 that has been retrofitted with innovative technology, the booking platform for parking customers and the new one that went online in 2017 Munich airport website. When confirming the 5-star certification, the extensive measures that Munich Airport implemented to protect against infection and to maintain hygiene and distance rules also played a role.
"That is a great and motivating signal in a difficult time," said Jost Lammers, CEO of Flughafen München GmbH. “I think it is particularly remarkable that we were able to maintain our high standards despite the various pandemic-related restrictions. The fact that we will continue to be a 5-star airport in the future encourages us to weather the current crisis as an airport community together. There will also be a time after the pandemic and I am confident that our hub will build on the successes of recent years. "
Among the seven international airports that have been awarded the 5-Star Airport seal of approval, Munich is still the only European airport and, together with the airports in Doha, Hong Kong, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo Haneda, is in the top group worldwide .
