The Ukrainian airport Dnipro was hit by Russian missiles on Monday night. According to official information, the infrastructure was badly damaged. The terminal and a runway were destroyed.

The regional administration of Dnipro announced via social media that the airport is said to have been largely destroyed. At least two rockets hit Dnipro airport. There is no reliable information about the entire extent of the damage, but it is confirmed that the airport will no longer be operational without extensive renovation.

The Russian Federation's armed forces are targeting airports in Ukraine. The background might be that you want to destroy the infrastructure. The fact that the Ukrainian army could also use them as a launch pad for national defense may also play a role in the airports.

In the past there were non-stop flights to Dnipro from Vienna-Schwechat. However, these were discontinued some time ago because Austrian Airlines took this route to nearby Zaporizhia. Due to a lack of demand and for safety reasons, the route was paused long before the Russian armed forces attacked. Wizz Air had announced a non-stop connection between Vienna and Zaporizhia for the spring of 2020 for the first time, but to date it has not operated a single flight. The recording is pushed back at regular intervals, although due to the war it is very unlikely that it will be operated soon.
