The NATO military alliance is currently conducting aerial refueling exercises over the German district of Oldenburg using the Airbus A330MRTT type. The T-054 is primarily used, as confirmed by the Multinational Multirole Tanker Transport Unit.
This machine type can be used both for aerial refueling and as a transport aircraft. According to a spokesman, another area of operation is the implementation of medical evacuation flights.
The Multirole Tanker Transport Fleet is a cooperation between the armed forces of Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway and the Czech Republic. Together they want to ensure, among other things, air refueling. The fleet currently has five A330MRTTs based in Eindhoven and Cologne/Bonn. Four more units are to be taken over by manufacturer Airbus by 2025.
