For reasons that are still unclear, the ATR72-500 with the registration 9N-ANC crashed in Nepal on Sunday. According to official information, there were 68 passengers and four crew members on board. The turboprop aircraft was operated by Yeti Airlines.
The ATR72-500 was en route from Kathmandu to Pokhara with flight number YT691. The crash happened on Sunday morning while approaching the destination airport. The authorities are currently saying that none of the occupants survived the accident. The cause is still completely unclear and has yet to be determined by accident investigators.
The video below, which appears to have been taken accidentally, shows the 9N-ANC flying a turn just before the crash. The turboprop aircraft could have been traveling too slowly and lost lift for reasons that are unclear.
In general, Nepal does not have a good reputation when it comes to aviation security. Numerous airlines, including Yeti Airlines, which was affected by the accident, are on the so-called black list of the European Union. This means that they are not allowed to fly to EU airports. Serious accidents have repeatedly occurred in Nepal in recent years. For example, in May 2022, a Tara Air DHC-6 Twin Otter had an accident. All 22 people lost their lives.
