The planned new edition of the airline Mexicana de Aviación, which is supposed to be under the leadership of the military, will not be carried out with the announced Boeing 737-800, at least initially. They want to get started next month with an old Embraer 145, which is operated by TAR Transportes Aéreos Regionales.

The affected regional jet has the registration XA-VGQ and is currently 22,6 years old. The machine is owned by the leasing company Regional One. The operator of the 50-seater is TAR. Mexicana's livery is currently being installed in a hangar. The fact that a wet lease machine is used is surprising, because the new edition is a state-owned company that is affiliated with the military.

However, things don't seem to be going according to plan. The start of operations has been announced for December 1, 2023, but the new Mexicana has not yet received a civilian AOC and the necessary operating license has not yet been received. It was originally said that ten Boeing 737-800s would initially be launched on this date, but not a single aircraft is known to have been handed over yet.

It was explained that the medium-haul jets will be taken over in September and October 2023 and prepared for Mexicana operations. According to local media, this step has not yet taken place. Now it seems as if the government wants to at least maintain the appearance that everything is on schedule with a wet lease solution, which would formally be a charter if there is no AOC at the time of the first flight.
