The region around Semmering and the Rax is easily accessible by public transport via the Südbahn - the “last” mile can be covered using specially set up shuttles or regional buses. “The area around the Semmering and the Rax impresses with its scenic beauty and attractions for all age groups - a true paradise for guests and locals. The public travel options round off the leisure activities perfectly,” emphasizes State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner.

In order to ensure the mobility of guests traveling by public transport between train stations, cultural events, excursion destinations, hiking starting points and accommodation, the regional bus routes were strengthened and a needs-oriented shuttle was also set up under the title “RUFbus Semmering-Rax”. “Travelling by public transport is convenient and also protects the climate. Our goal is for more guests to know and use these opportunities,” says Christian Blazek, chairman of the Semmering-Rax-Schneeberg tourism association.

“The RUFbus-Semmering, awarded the Lower Austria Tourism Prize for sustainability, has a high tourist added value for us. The service was very well received right from the start and has received a lot of positive feedback from guests, companies and the media,” confirms Mariella Klement-Kapeller, Managing Director of Wiener Alpen in Niederösterreich Tourismus GmbH.

A focus is placed on people without a car. “We want to make our guests aware that many excursion destinations, hiking routes and accommodation providers in our region can be reached car-free. We therefore use targeted communication and marketing measures to provide our guests with all the information in a good and clear manner,” explains Mayor Irene Gölles, chairwoman of the Lower Austria South Leader Region.
