New livery: Condor turns into a colorful zebra

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The German holiday airline Condor has given itself a new brand image and at the same time a new livery. The latter has a "zebra-like" design in five colors and, according to the company, is intended to remind you of holidays. You want to present yourself unmistakably and uniquely.

At the same time, the logo was slightly revised. The lettering "Condor" now appears in lowercase in bold. "Condor has gone through a transformation in the last two and a half years: from the subsidiary of a vertically integrated travel group to an independent airline that proudly looks back on its history and tradition, while at the same time making its way into the future. We also want to express this unequivocally through our appearance: Condor is vacation and Condor is unmistakable - like our new design, with which we are now starting into the future," says Ralf Teckentrup, CEO of Condor. "Our new trademark are stripes, our figurative mark stands for our origin and the colors for diversity. This triad is new, what remains is our passion. It has always made Condor unique and is therefore reflected in our claim: Passion is our compass.”

The conception and creation of the new brand presence was managed by Remo Masala, owner of the creative agency Vision Slphabet in Berlin. "Revising the brand image of Condor with its long tradition is a sensitive interaction based on respect for the origin and the requirements for the future. Our goal was to give Condor a special visual independence, the rationale for which is united in Condor's brand essence: the invention of the holiday flight and the effective holiday code, the stripes of summer, joy and freedom.

The main colors of the corporate identity are yellow and blue. They have been supplemented with the contrasting color grey. The Condor signet, the condor in a circle, goes back to one of the most influential German designers, Otl Aicher. The figurative mark has received a facelift, the lines have become finer and more dynamic. It can be found in the tail unit of the aircraft. The Condor lettering has also been adjusted: It is now more compact and the word mark has been developed more independently and consistently with the image due to the new lower case. The logo appears in high-contrast black on the fuselage of the aircraft.

New livery in five different colors

The Condor aircraft will initially have five colors in a striped look: yellow, red, blue, green and beige stand for the facets of the diversity of the Condor guests, the employees and the multitude of opportunities to discover the world with Condor.

Accessories such as scarves, ties and pins will shine in the new design on the crews' uniforms. And the new design is also finding its way on board, in the airports, on the website and on social media: In the coming weeks and months, many items on board will be exchanged, such as mugs, blankets and cutlery, as well as all materials on the floor such as boarding cards, ID cards and airport signage. The exchange runs successively, whereby nothing in the old design is disposed of, but everything is used up. Around 80 percent of the fleet is to be repainted by 2024, because repainting is due there anyway. Condor is thus choosing the most sustainable way to redesign the brand image and the fleet.

The new design was presented in Toulouse with the first A330neo, which will take off for Condor from autumn. The first 2-litre aircraft will of course be launched with green stripes. The first Condor aircraft with the new look will be on the route from tomorrow: The Airbus A321 with the registration D-AIAD has yellow stripes and will fly to Lanzarote on April 5, 2022 at noon. In the coming weeks, five more Boeing 757 and Airbus A320/1 aircraft will be repainted, so that six aircraft in the new design will be on the road in the summer flight schedule. They mainly fly to Mallorca, Greece, the Canary Islands and Egypt.

Brave... - indeed very brave, which is what Condor came up with when designing their aircraft. To be honest, this livery spontaneously reminds me more of striped socks or prisoner's clothing than of vacation. Have you ever thought about it?
