A nationwide strike by the railway unions FNV, CNV, and VVMC will completely paralyze train services on Dutch Railways (NS) on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. Originally planned as a regional action in North Holland, South Holland, Zeeland, and West Brabant, the strike has expanded to such an extent that NS has declared a nationwide disruption unavoidable.
International train services, including those to and from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, may also be affected by the industrial action, although the exact details remain unclear. Only passengers with valid international tickets will be allowed to use these services. Regular train services are expected to resume on Wednesday, June 11, although minor disruptions may still occur in the morning.
The unions are demanding wage increases beyond the 2,55 percent offered by NS, citing inflation-related losses. If no agreement is reached, further strikes have been announced for June 16 (regional) and June 17 (national). Parallel to the rail strike, an increase in road traffic is expected, boosted by the increase in travel after Pentecost and the return of German holidaymakers.
