On Sunday, rail traffic in the Netherlands largely came to a standstill due to a software glitch. International trains, for example to France, Belgium and Germany, could not run either.

According to a statement from the state railway company NS, normality has now largely returned. However, there are still some after-effects that may drag on for the next few days, the company said.

A safety-related control system had failed. This was no longer available from around 10:00 a.m. The deployment planning of the trains is coordinated with the aid of the affected software. "And that is essential so that the traffic can be scheduled according to schedule," the NS said in an official statement. The glitch has now been fixed.
