The government of the Netherlands announced that part of the state aid for KLM is withheld. This is a reaction to the fact that the pilots union has refused to waive wage increases until 2025. According to Finance Minister Wopke Hoekstra, the Skyteam member should not face bankruptcy as a result.

Nevertheless, the financial situation is tense and, according to the Dutch government, the liquidity should last “only a few months”. It remains to be seen whether an agreement can be reached between the union and KLM management. The employee representatives, however, deny the guilt and state that the waiver of salary increases was approved until March 2022. However, the government of the Netherlands sets as a condition for the granting of state aid that wages may not be increased for five years. The union does not agree with this. How the matter will develop remains to be seen.
