After Vienna, Lower Austria is also starting free PCR gargle tests in cooperation with Lead Horizon and the Rewe Group. First, a pilot project is being carried out in Zwettl, in which 1.500 people can take part.

According to the daily newspaper Kurier, the starting shot for the experiment in Zwettl is already on Tuesday. Just like in Vienna, the kits are distributed in Bipa branches. The return can be made in almost all stores of the Rewe Group (Merkur, Bipa, Billa, Billa Plus, Penny, etc.) as well as at petrol stations with "Merkur Inside" or "Billa-Shop" in throw-in boxes. If submitted before 9:00 a.m., the result should be sent by email within 24 hours. The evaluating laboratory Lifebrain uses RT-PCR technology. The findings are available in German and English.

Lower Austria plans to offer these PCR kits throughout the state in the near future. For now, however, the processes are being tested in Zwettl. There is not yet an exact time for the expansion to all of Lower Austria. As soon as the whole area has been expanded, you will also find throw-in boxes in the Bipa and Billa branches at Vienna Schwechat Airport and possibly also in the gas station. At the moment this is still a long way off.

However, arriving passengers can already benefit from a free PCR test kit. This can be picked up at the cash desk of the Bipa store in the arrival zone of Terminal 3. According to a spokesman for the Rewe Group, the return must be made in Vienna in a throw-in box in Rewe Group shops or in BP (with “Merkur Inside”), Shell (with “Billa”) or Jet (with “Billa”) brands.
