After insulation material came loose from the walls in the noise protection hall at Zurich Airport during an engine test on December 3, 2021, the hall had to be closed and partially renovated. The noise protection hall is now back in operation.

During the incident last December, parts of the sound-absorbing construction of the noise protection hall were destroyed, which led to extensive renovation work. After a lengthy analysis phase, designers have planned the reconstruction. The construction was redesigned from the ground up and reinforced at neuralgic points, as the airport announced in a press release. As a result of the event, engine tests at Zurich Airport had to be carried out outdoors for a while. The hall was put back into operation on October 5, 2022.

The noise protection hall at Zurich Airport was built in 2014. It is financed from Zurich Airport's noise fund and serves to protect residents from noise emissions caused by engine standstills.
