Nordica will fly under its own code “ND” in the future

The airline Nordica will fly under its own code from August 2021. The IATA two-letter code “ND” was assigned to the carrier, which only received the AOC and operating license towards the end of 2020. Before that - until the company's own scheduled service was discontinued - all flights under LO were operated by Lot.

Nordica started as a so-called virtual airline after the collapse of Estonian Air. At the beginning they cooperated with the now defunct Adria Airways. Later they switched to Polish Lot, which also took a 49 percent stake in the operational Nordica subsidiary Regional Jet (now Xfly). This capital entanglement was dissolved in December 2020. Since then, Xfly has been a 100 percent subsidiary of Nordica, which is now also own certificates issued got.

From a legal point of view, the former virtual carrier is thus an airline. It is planned that the former Nordica network will be reactivated from Tallinn. With LOT you will only work selectively, because all flights should be carried out under the ND code. The separation between sales and operational implementation is to be retained, however, because the Nordica flights planned from August 1, 2021 will continue to be operated by the subsidiary Xfly.

This also applies to the Stockholm-Arlanda-Gällivare route, which is currently still operated under the LO code. This should be switched to the Nordica designator by August 1, 2021 at the latest. It is still open whether the separation between Nordica (line) and Xfly (ACMI and charter) will be retained in the long term or whether the two operations will be merged. In any case, the Estonian government wants to build a strong home base carrier under state leadership. In the ACMI segment, Xfly works for SAS, among others.
