Norwegian has 13 Boeing 737-800s in service

The low-cost airline Norwegian missed the collapse last year by a hair's breadth and downsized massively. Now they are considering another major expansion step and intend to add 13 Boeing 737-800s to the fleet.

These are leasing planes which, according to a statement from the listed group of companies, are to be obtained on “favorable terms”. The first units are to be taken over as early as the fourth quarter of 2021. The rest are to follow towards the beginning of 2022.

The contracts will run for between five and eight years, depending on the machine. CEO Geir Karlsen assumes that the proportion of so-called “Power by the Hour” contracts will drop to around 2022 to 60 percent of the fleet by the summer of 70. Currently, all 51 Boeing 737-800s are leased through such agreements.
