Norwegian is sending its EU offshoot Norwegian Air International into bankruptcy. Bankruptcy protection proceedings were filed in Ireland on Wednesday. This carrier operates all flights within the European Union.

The same was applied for for the property company Arctic Aviation Assets. The parent company recently announced that it will be downsized a lot and that it will be flying with only a few machines within Norway for the time being. The government previously refused to grant state support.

Norwegian announced that flight operations - at least domestically - should remain upright. The aim is to use the bankruptcy protection procedures that the two Irish daughters are entering into to reposition themselves. The liquidity would be sufficient for this. However, it is also possible that a sale could take place as part of the proceedings, because an EU subsidiary makes little sense for an airline that wants to focus on domestic markets in the future.
